I've recently embraced the Apple eco-culture after moving from Android after however many years it's been since the HTC Hero. The Apple forums are in meltdown over the imminent death of Apply due to the headphone issue and the fact that iOS10 doesn't introduce a Dark Mode. It's really funny, they go apoplectic that Apple has released a phone that doesn't do exactly what they want.
What's Dark Mode?

Cut toothbrush in half, insert the fluffy end in ears ........ People will think you have spent £150 on Apple air pods

If you've seen an iPad (most people have but just in case) most of the real estate is light or white. Dark mode makes it black. I personally don't see this as a biggie but you wouldn't believe the wailing and gnashing of teeth going on in Apple world because iOS 10 doesn't have it

Astonishingly Perplexing Popularity Ludicrously Expensive.
As a new member of Apple world, yes it is expensive but it just does stuff. I've been a huge fan of android since the start because I could put new ROMs on my phone, change the launcher etc but if you just want a phone (small in my case, the SE was the converting factor) and to be productive, Apple just makes it easy

Holy mother of Andy Roxburgh - this is amazing. I never knew my ipad could do this!

The light from LEDs is quite blue, so using it late at night or in bed can mess up your sleep because your eyes see the light and your body says "oh, it's day time! better get on with huntin' and gatherin'" I've tried an app on my android that dims the screen and makes things more orange, but that makes it hard to read. White text on a black background reduces the amount of blue light your eyes are exposed to, and also stops it disturbing any sleeping partners you may have**

** and as @Markymark will shortly assure us, for most IOS users, that's more than one, on average

Me my lovely wife and my ego, so it's an eightsome. iOS has a night feature that switches on at a decided time that reduces the blue. It has a slide bar to adjust the warmth.

Night mode or whatever it's called where basically the display "softens" isn't the same as Dark mode. Apologies if you already know this

No headphone socket is just more marketing from Apple to sell over priced addons and make people discuss the lack of a socket rather than discussing why do Apple keep selling the same phone rebadged as a new model every year.
