My wife has my old 3GS which was originally on Orange but she had unlocked to use O2. It is possible when the phone was unlocked it was jail-broken - I don't know if this was the case and my wife has never heard the term!

After the phone was unlocked she was unable to download any apps. Tonight I have attempted to update the software via iTunes to solve this problem. The phone was recognised and the download appears to have gone ahead OK. The update offered was IOS 6. Now the phone has asked to be set up from scratch but this fails with the message "SIM not recognised" and asked to activate via iTunes. When connected to iTunes I get the message "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are trying to activate"

Any ideas because I haven't a clue!

many thanks

If u still have an active Orange sim try it in the Iphone. That message normally comes up on a locked handset.

If it was unlocked by one of those 'phone unlock' shops then it would almost certainly have been jail broken. Those shops cannot perform a network unlock.

An IOS update or system restore will have reinstated the network lock.

You'll need to contact Orange who will unlock it from the network.

Your phone as far as apple and itunes is concerned is still connected to your old sim/network

Thanks for the suggestions re network.Seems entirely logical to me so I shall be calling Orange tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.

Rusky thanks for the suggestion which would be the obvious solution except we can't get into the phone and iTunes won't recognise it to allow me to play around.

Apple support are also very helpful over the phone.

True. I had a missing video which just wouldn't download. I called up and even they could not work it out, so they gave me £10 of credit for Itunes:smile:.

PS they also gave me a call back to save my phone costs when trying to sort out the video problem.

There should be an option to delete the iPhone altogether and set up from new, I did this when I gave my Missus my old 3GS and unlocked it from 02 to her Vodafone. Failing that you may need to contact orange as it may not have unlocked properly?
