I go over about four times a year for work, and I love it, just a shame that you need a second mortgage to eat out.

[QUOTE 2269361, member: 1314"] So off I went to a pub. The first one. Near the bus station. Perhaps the cracked window on the door should have warned me. Maybe the tricolours on the front door should have warned me. Maybe the barman asking me "Are you sure?" when I asked for a guinness should have warned me.

Of course I said "I'm sure" whereupon he disappeared into the other bar to reappear a couple of minutes later. "Are you sure?" he asked again. I left at that point. All the other pubs we went to were great.

I think I may have gone to the same pub back in the 80's. Walked in with a couple of mates and ordered 3 pints of the black stuff and the pub went dead quiet. It was then that we noticed the pro IRA pictures and posters and the fact that everyone was glaring at us  , The quickest guinness I have ever drunk

[QUOTE 2269361, member: 1314"]As this is the cafe, I shall tell some anecdotes. First time I went to Dublin I was really excited! This was back in the early 90s before it became trendy. We'd taken the night boat-bus over, arrived at 10, found a crappy B&B and my girl-friend at the said she wanted to to crash out. I was too excited and wanted to go to a pub. So off I went to a pub. The first one. Near the bus station. Perhaps the cracked window on the door should have warned me. Maybe the tricolours on the front door should have warned me. Near the bus station would also put you near to a Garda station. The Tricolour flying stands out simply because you seldom see the Union Flag flying on the mainlaland UK.
