As I have essentially turned my 'road' bike (2013 Triban T5) into a commuter/tourer (admittedly so far this year that is theoretically speaking!) I was thinking about getting a new road bike for when/if we ever get some decent weather again!

I had a peek on Evans and so far quite taken by these Pinnacle Dolomites (except perhaps the colour of the six!). The four is last year's model so is a fair bit cheaper than the six, but if I'm going to upgrade from Sora is it worth only going one step up? A quick search seems to suggest the SRAM Apex on the five is similar quality to the 105 so maybe that would be the best compromise (as well as not needing a pair of sunglasses to look at!) May need to sell my hybrid to make room though...

Fun is I suppose one way I can describe my commute earlier. I had to walk one section as despite being on a heavy MTB with 2.1" tyres and big wide handlebars, the wind was trying to blow me off of the exposed path and down into the ditch beside it. 49mph gusting 71mph apparently. It felt like it.

I would much prefer cold and calm. I have studded tyres for ice, but no defence against the wind.

GP4000's, they have done about 1,700 miles with only 2 punctures so far

They are certainly lighter and faster than my Durano Plus but they punctured twice within about 3 weeks with me so put me off them a bit. Back to the Durano Plus, especially at this time of year. Might try the Rubino Pro or Michelin Pro 4 endurance for the summer.

I've been impressed with mine, the first time they got a puncture their was a slit in the tyre so whatever caused it would have most likely done the same to any tyre, i've not investigated what might have caused this mornings puncture yet though. There goes my 30 min lunch getting a new tube and fixing it

Don't know much about Pinnacle as you don't see many but that's probably one advantage - you will be one of the few! Carbon forks for £550 is good too, and they seem to get good reviews - you'd need to go and sit on one though to really tell.

My commute last night was unintentionally exciting! Rather than fight across the totally exposed Carse into the teeth of the gale I decided to try riding through the Sidlaws and avoid the worst of the wind. I need to do a proper run-down test of my lighting because the warning light came on when I was still miles away from home and descending in the dark is scary enough without adding ice and deep floodwater

This morning's commute was marred by a visit from the P fairy - which is odd since I was on the bus!
