We had a two hour summer here this afternoon, I almost moved to the other side of the bus to seek shade from the but just took my fleece off instead.
Had something to eat when I got home, looked out the kitchen window and would you believe it, wind and rain......... again.
It is very difficult to work up enthusiasm for a cycle tour.

bit breezy ... 2 shopping trolley rides done, next one due in a few minutes ...
At least the tank doesn't get blown off course quite so easily ;-)

Was hosing it down here this morning, with strong winds and STILL cold.
Which reminds me of another cause for a rant. Why do BBC weather forecasters NEVER use the word "cold" any more? They always say it's going to be "cool", even in January! In my mind, "cool" is the breeze you get in hot climates which brings some relief from the heat. What we get is not cool, it's COLD!
Anyway, , it's now improving slightly in the west. The rain has given way to showers and the wind has abated to about force 5. "Cool" .

@Telemark ; I'm just thinking ahead a wee bit here, but re the EdFOC night ride - do we just turn up on the night at the start point? Presumably we need to bring something to prove we have paid for our place on the run. Print-out of the receipt? Or is it done on trust? . Looking forward to it and hoping for some reasonable weather!

Travelling from darkest Ayrshire upon Clyde. Current plan is to get the train through to Embra, leaving Glasgow about 9pm..

Hi guys,

No dress code for heads! You should all have received an e-mail last night mentioning that we'll meet up from 10:00, ready to set off from 11:00pm. There is a registration desk in Tracy Griffen's fitness studio next to Leith Cycle Co - you might just want to print off your registration confirmation as proof, but your date of birth or an address should suffice if you forget - it'll all be on the list that Mrs Scoosh is in charge of. It would be quite difficult for somebody to know all that info and impersonate any of you . You'll also be given ride leader & mechanic support phone numbers and food vouchers to help us count you in at the food stops...

Please do read the info sheet carefully, about what to bring - lights, food etc. Thanks on behalf of all the ride leaders.
Just back from test-riding most of the route, easy coasting on any east-bound bits, hard work on the way home in this wind ...
I won't be giving anything away when I say that there are some lovely new tarmac sections, as the council seem to have been busy all across East Lothian.

Does anyone use a backpack to cart around all the overnight stuff? It's dark, no one will see :-)

@Brandane I was thinking about driving but jumping on the train at Croy makes a lot more sense.

Train! Especially for getting back home, much more relaxing - might want to set an alarm so you don't miss Croy on the way back .
I'll carry round a pannier - spare clothes (choice depends on weather on the day/night), light batteries, snacks, 1st aid kit, camera, maps (not for navigating , just in case of emergencies), phone, lock, money ...
Preferable to trying to look good and freezing/boiling/starving/not being able to see potholes/having your bike nicked in Leith etc , in my book anyway

I thought about driving too, but as Telemark says, not much fun trying to drive back home on Saturday morning. I'll take the train and won't worry about falling asleep; I live at the end of the line anyway .
I think I will be making use of my Carradice saddlebag for carrying all the bits 'n' pieces that are going to be needed for a night ride; I need an excuse to use the support bracket I bought for it which has not seen any proper action yet - still waiting for summer to arrive .

@Telemark @Brandane I had made my mind up to get the train when I was reminded of the major engineering works between Edinburgh and Glasgow that start this coming weekend. No trains between Croy and Edinburgh and limited bike facilities on the the southern link. So, back to Plan A - take the car. Will I get parked OK around the start?
