They look just dreadful that's why, especially when pulled up to mid-calf. I did say 'irrational cycling dislikes'.

Roads with sheer drops to the side of them....doesn't have to be a long drop...only a foot or two and I'm riding in the centre of the lane to get away from it....I'll never be able to ride the famous climbs of the Tour, Giro etc.

Climbs are ok, cos you're going slow, you have to watch the descents!!!
