Is CycleChat & Recreational Rides a dead forum?

... passed on, no more, ceased to be, expired and gone to meet its maker, a stiff, bereft of life, resting in peace?!

I took last year off from organising forum rides and in that time the CycleChat & Recreational Rides forum seems to have virtually died!

My new ride thread has only had 1 view since I started it yesterday. I was looking at other recent ride threads and hardly anyone has looked at them either.

I wonder if people just stopped looking in the rides forum*** because so little was going on there? If so, it is a shame! Actually riding with other forum members is (IMHO) A Good Thing, which we should encourage.

I know that this is not the most pleasant time of year (in the UK) to be riding our bikes, but a forum ride could be extra motivation to get off the couch (or turbo trainer!) and get frozen and soaked have some cycling fun with other forum members.

Post your opinion below. If you are interested, also take a look at my ride thread (and the others) in the rides forum.

*** Which is why I have started this thread in General Chat instead!

What, some people on here actually ride bicycles?

When I actually get out, I post mine on "Your Ride today" or "Tiny Rides" or even "Recumbent Rides" but things have been a bit hectic recently. They're usually solitary rides. I look at other posts when I post but usually look for out for new posts and notifications otherwise.

Ah, so it is another of those little bugs creeping into the forum software then!

I always look at 'New Posts' too, rather than trawling through everything.

No Cragg Vale ascent attempt?
Not this time; we will be doing it as a post-cafe descent!

I have toyed with organising a forum hill climb pursuit time trial up there. Riders would guesstimate how quickly they could do it and would set off slowest first, with the appropriate gaps between riders. I can't decide whether that is a stupid idea or an inspired one! I suppose the only way to know for sure is to do it and see how many people wanted to take part, and how we felt about it afterwards.

I am thinking about doing a virtual Cragg Vale climb this evening on my turbo trainer. My previous virtual attempt had to aborted due to illness, as in nearly fainting and then being ill for 3 weeks!

I'm a MOB or MOG if you ask my wife. I quite enjoy cycling on my own.
Even with the 3 or 4 guys I occasionally cycle with we tend to spread out and regroup. There's some funny sense of when to wait for someone though in my case unusually being waited for.

I'm reluctant to spoil the peace and quiet of my routes by sharing them.

I get that - I am the same most of the time. It is good to break the silence now and then though!

I sometimes go 10 days without speaking to anybody, and 4 or 5 days is common. I feel that I should fight my loner tendencies every now and then! :okay:
