Is it me or are Ant & Dec turning in to Morecombe & Wise?

I turned on the telly to be greeted with this show and their joke about a contestant's grandfather and not being able to hear what they said (done by raising their voices).

Pish poor.

The Chuckle Brothers would be a better comparison.

Was it Michael Parkinson who asked Eric and Ernie what they'd have been if they hadn't become comedians, and Eric said, " Mike and Bernie Winters"

I must admit I haven't really bothered with them since the Biker Grove days, so I don't really know what they are like these days.

Morecombe and Wise had about a dozen jokes that were just repeated, had a recorded Saturday night slot for about six weeks per year and a Christmas special. Nothing else apart from a few really bad films. Good in their day but really not great.

The one to watch Ant and Dec in is Saturday Night Takeaway. The host a LIVE one hour prime time show. M&W would s*** themselves at the very thought of doing that! They do this exactly as the show wants and are on cue every time throughout.
Plus they then do the hosting of BGT and the Jungle thing. Yes it is all ITV low rent tv but that is the niche they are in and they do a brilliant job of it.
I would say they are far ahead of any other presenters today and probably will be recognised as brilliant in time but not now.
Present day never looks good when pitched against the past.

I'm with you on Ant and Dec's excellence, but M&W were also truly excellent. Just a different job, really. Stage comedians -vs- presenters. OK, there's a lot of comedy in what A&D do, but it's a different kettle of fish, really. They are great at what they do. So were M&W.
