....is everyone cycle touring these days?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful. This weekend I had the lovely task of driving some mad friends from Leeds to Fort William down to the Lake District and then on to Snowdon before heading back to Leeds so they could do the utterly barking Three Peak Challenge. Pretty much every road we took that wasn't a motorway was heaving with tourers, some quite laden down as well. I was so excited and encouraged to see it.

Similarly, Crazyguyonabike is bursting with new members and new entries. It feels like cycle touring has totally taken off this year.

Great, isn't it!

I havent noticed many around here (essex) but then again who in their right mind wants to tour essex! Germany was heaving with four pannier laden bikes.

It's good to hear though...the more the merrier!

I saw quite a few on the Grimpeurs Des Wolds circuit yesterday, I was struggling on a race bike, so had admiration for them out on their tourers. I had a clock to beat, they were just cruising along without a care in the world. Bliss. That must be the attraction?

Had two weeks in France and didn't see anyone else touring. Only met about two roadies in all that time as well.

I think this was the least activity I've ever known in 40 years.

I'm just back from North Scotland and the place was full of tourers - I spoke to a local who I know and she said this year has been exceptionally busy with cyclists.

The Coast and Castles Route was frequented by many Dutch cycle tourists. It's very accessible to them because of the ferry service to Newcastle. Not seen any cycle tourists here in Crete. I'm not motivated enough to hire a mountain bike here in Stalides - it's too hot.

I can't wait to get back to the UK - I've got one, possibly two mini tours lined up before going back to work.

I've just got back from France and we saw very few in Normandy but shedloads on the Loire. There were many independents and lots of groups on hire bikes with matching panniers. I was quite glad to get off the beaten track again as I was getting jaw ache saying, "bonjour"!!

Been noticeably more cycle tourists in this part of France. Haven't seen any obvious Brits yet. Y'know faded cotton duck panniers, and knotted k'chiefs on their heads.

I have seen a number of articles in the press about how cycle touring is fashionable, it is great seeing people discovering the freedom which being on a bike has to offer...

We've seen many here in the South of Holland, and it is nice to see so many fully loaded cycling tourists. Problem is we like to join them.

Always busy here in Devon with cyclist's touring the county or just passing through but i have noticed this year that the coastal roads seem to be a lot busier than previous years ?
