Is it true that countries with a MaccyD have never gone to war against each other?

It's Ronald McDonald that instigates these wars on countries that don't have one. When the war is over he moves in and everything is rosey.

Do not underestimate the power of a crap burger!

you almost have a point. El Salvador and Honduras have been getting along like two pattes in a Big Mac and the ceasefire between Moldova and Russia, who backed the Transnistria separatists, is as solid as a stale bap since MaccyDs set up shop in Chisinau.

However the Golden Arches couldn't prevent civil war breaking out in the former Yugoslavia, or in Nicaragua, and has had no political effect in the Lebanon. And, as far as I know, the Spanish have not given up their claim to Gibraltar, despite the presence of MaccyDs on the Rock.

However......as Branes points out Georgian and Russian troops most definitely fought over South Ossetia, (and, before that Abkhazia), and both sides refer to it as a 'war' even if no formal declaration of war was made by either. The Battle of Tshkinvali in 2008 involved artillery, T-72 tanks and strike aircraft, three of which were downed by anti-aircraft fire. I think it's worth noting that it took the French Government to broker the truce, and there is surely no greater criticism of MaccyDiplomacy than that.

Iraq has a McDonalds as well, in Baghdad. It's a famous idea by Friedman though, he basically means that states whom are developed enough to have a major multinational corporation such as McDonalds operating, means that two such states have too much to lose by going to war with each other. Things have moved on slightly nowadays though.

If the proposition holds good then the indications are that most wars are fought between countries that believe in Macdonalds and those that do not.

The following statement
it took the French Government to broker the truce,
supports this possibility as it is well known that the French are ambivalent about Macdonalds and therefore neutral.

The signs are that Macdonalds is responsible for these wars and should be held to account.

But has there ever been a fire in a McD's on a pier since the LHC started up?

(See the LHC thread, if this confuses you).
