Ok so its a smart phone, but I guess I'm not a smart user. HTC one & when I add new contacts they do not appear in my contact list. Added a number last week & now I want to call it I cant find the number anywhere  Other recent numbers I've added appear in my call history with names, but again not in the contacts list.
Think I need to go back to an old trusty Nokia 3310

Are you saving numbers to the phone or your sim card? There are display options for either/both.

I like Skol

Probably, but you can't beat the simple Nokias for user friendliness.

My current 113 is small, light, reliable, long battery life, good reception (often when others can't) and cheap.

It's predecessor, the C1 was the same and even survived a trip through the washing machine and is still in use by my son

You need an iPhone. Got to be the easiest and most intuitive to use.

we use the C1 as our on call phones as they're so reliable. The bosses on their blackberrys and my smartphone don't give nearly as much standby or reliable signal.

Only other thing I can think of is that you've saved the contacts to your Google profile rather than phone/sim, then don't have it set to show Google contacts?

I use the Nokia C1 as an ICE phone when out on long rides. Simple to use for anyone who may come across me if injured & a decent battery life
