is my tyre trashed?

hi all,

i got a puncture at weekend, eventually got it sorted then rode home. i have just looked at it properly.

it has a small hole on the outside, tho the rubber looks like it has been stretched, and a half an inch cut on the inside thru the canvass.

my question is, is this tyre trashed or is it ok to carry on, i.e., will the tear / cut get worse or just stay the same?

the tyre is a 16 inch with 100 psi pressure.

Does the tyre bulge when pumped up? If so, I would bin it.

If not, I would risk it on the rear but not the front. Just keep an eye on it. You could put a strip of thin rubber or something between the tube and tyre for re-inforcement if you like.

What size hex key can you fit through the hole?

3mm, it's trash.

That's a dead-un, especially if it's on the front.

If I were waiting till pay-day to replace it, I'd run it on the back so it's less likely to dump you on your face if it deflates rapidly.

yep i decided it was trashed at a closer look. the half inch hole went all the way thru. bought a marathon plus replacement.....ouch!!!!....they are not cheap....£29.99....for a 16 inch tyre thanks for the replies though
