Maybe it's a pine marten, they eat rodents.
Hopefully not as whilst their fascinating to watch and generally a thing of beauty, they can cause an enormous amount of damage when they find their way into a roof space.

If it's a visitor, I wouldn't worry too much about it if I'm honest, especially if your only in it for a few months. You are paying your way, you owe the landlord nothing.

If it is living in the roof, it is possible it could be bats. They will often find openings in the upper roof areas and spend their days in the roof. At dusk they stream out in search of insects to eat. When I went to summer camp, there were tons of bats living in the roof of the building that we ate in. They would store packaged goods in the top floor of the building and when I went up there to fetch something for the cook I could hear them rustling around in there as well as the occassional squeek. It was freaky.
