As for your point about public transport operators: to my mind the blame for their failures should lie with them and not the Met Office????
Yes, the blame does lie with the operators, but for the past few days they can blame the weather for everything and can quote the Met Office warnings, even although the forecasted bad weather never arrived.

Panic buying? So people really think they'll get snowed in with 8" of snow?

Always good to have a non mainstream agenda when panic buying.

That passes for mainstream up this end of town.
That, and white port which is sweeping through the chattering classes like swinging did in its day.

in rural lancashire the small amount of snow has affected me slightly, I got a lift in the car with the wife on Friday as the back alley was too icy to safely get the motorbike out of the back garden, however on Thursday a bit of grit from the local grit bin did the trick.

not sure what the fuss is about.

It's going to be chaos in the morning down here: it's drifting up to 4 inches deep!!!

Was going to ask you. How are the roads your end of the A21?
It's quite bad this end.
You answer will determine if I cycle commute tomorrow.

Because it's wet snow, the major roads are all clear right now. The big question is whether it gets cold enough to freeze the slush overnight (though there's surprisingly little of that). The BBC forecast is only for -2, so it shouldn't be a problem on salted and gritted roads. But best to give the roads near to you a good look over in the morning - your local roads will be worse than down here at sea level.

My friend in canada is telling me he has 3 feet snow at -20 and that that is pretty mild for him this time of year...he's just buried himself in his studio in the cabin with his banjo I suspect lol!
