Is there a flower that smells of ... dog poo?

Most lunchtimes I go for a walk to grab a bite to eat, and over the last week or two I've been smelling what can only be described as a dog poo smell when I walk past a certain couple of flowerbeds on the business park.

I just wondered if there are any flowers that give off an aroma similar to canine number two's?

It's either that or there's a rebel dog pack sneaking onto the estate overnight and dropping ICBM's[sup]*[/sup] all over the flowers!!

Not to my knowledge. Though some folk can be imaginative with their descriptions.

Ime, if it smells like dog shoot then it probably is dog shoot. We have 2 dogs (3 at the moment) and, believe me, I'm fairly well tuned to recognising the smell.

It's more likely become a favourite 'doggie dump' area. Keep an eye on who walks their dog(s) there, perhaps you'll see the culprit. Dogs (again, ime) are drawn by the smell and do tend to go in one-spot. There are a couple of favourite spots in our garden that the dogs tend to unload in, not exclusively but generally speaking.

Though I suspect one of our dogs plays a game with me; she knows when I'm going to mow the lawn and manages to hide one of her doings in virgin territory. She then sits and waits, sniggering until the moment when either I or the lawn mower find a fresh offering. Evil sense of humour that dog.

I used to have a random plant in my front yard which put out a very pungent smell for a few weeks each year... not dog poo though... sperm.

There are some foul smelling plants ... we used to have quite a few Dracunculus vulgaris but have gradually reduced the number due to the smell ... which does attract lots of insects which is the purpose of their smell.

Years ago I worked for a firm in east London who made flavours and fragrances. They had a patented molecule that they claimed was malodour counteractant so to demonstrate it they made a kitty litter malodour. A team from Tomorrow's World came to see it in action and when they unleashed the malodour the lab door burst open and a woman in huge red spectacles fell out of the door and staggered around in the corridor gasping theatrically, to everyone's amusement. There are some pretty stinky molecules around, much worse than good old hydrogen sulphide.

Not sure about dog poo, but I keep smelling cat wee when i visit several friends none of which have cats, I mentioned to one friend & she couldn't smell it, I then mentioned it another who also couldn't smell it - Was beginning to worry it was actulay me & the kittens had been wee-ing in my shoes!
Until I noticed recently they all seem to have the same looking plant in their gardens....Maybe I just have sensitive nostrils

Yes. The titan arum. One must have flowered in the late '90s because I was living next the gardens at the time and remember wandering over to have a look - it wasn't as smelly as I expected.

Got the same thing close to where I live - I suspect it's cats rather than dogs as there is always the shitty stink when I go past a small memorial garden which has a lot of bark chippings as weed cover, which of course the cats will find easy to "move and bury" as they do.
