If I'm every around an HGV either on my bike or in my car I assume he hasn't seen me. I've lost count of the number of times that an HGV has only been alerted to my presence by my leaning on the car horn.

I take it the lorry doesn't indicate? Although I suppose he can fairly argue that he's started to run the wheel as he checked his mirrors

Surely you weren;t in his blind spot, not sure you said you were mind

I don't know about the whole length but there are no restrictions between Lothian Road and Canning Street.

Looking at the street view image again, I see the no cycling sign is on the far side of the junction you are talking about. I had always thought it was the full length of the Western Approach Road, but now I see that is not so. Still don't fancy cycling that way though.

Couldn't see the wheels move on the vid but those tipper/skip trucks are a hazard from any angle!!

You didn't need to see them move.If you check you can see they are set to go left.

I just checked...it isn't as clear cut as that but I still had a strong impression he was going to go left.

There's no problem there it's too short for any speed to build up and is controlled by traffic lights, I often go from Canning Street to Lothian Road (because of the one way systems), that was the first time I went from Lothian Rd to Canning St (Lothian Rd/ Princess St was down to one lane and a mess); I'll just have watch out for illegal uturns back to that mess!
