I went to see one yesterday in the size the shop said suits me better....anyway, I got her show me the gears ect all working but the chain rubbed on the front derailleur as it moved from the middle to the outside cog, she said it was fully adjusted and that it was design fault (I've never heard of it). But it got me thinking that it's just a ploy from them so they didn't need to give me money if I'd changed bikes, as I'd have got 150 back.

So...is this a known fault with the 2300 gearing....cause she said I was better with the Sora....personally I think she's "at it"

You only asked one question :P It's a budget groupset which isn't in any way refined. I ended up adjusting mine so the lowest gear was unusable but the tradeoff was the front derailleur sat perfectly in higher gears, used all of the time.

Couldn't wait to get rid of it tbh.

Certain gear combinations are not possible on any bike with any equipment because the chainline becomes too extreme, so you get rubbing and even if you don't, you shouldn't do it as it will put undue stress on your running gear. So large outside and large rear/s gears, small inside and small outside are all not possible or advisable. If it was rubbing in any of those combinations she was speaking the truth.

All bikes do it in certain gear combinations. If you are doing it you arent using your gears correctly. Small to small and big to big is a no no. Simple.

Ok, she only went front the front middle to the outer to show me, it was fine going the other away, even from the outer right onto the inner...at the back it was between 3-5th

Sounds like the T3 needs new wheels sooner or later - if the T5 uses better wheels and a better groupset, seems a no brainer, regardless of this
