Is this a sensible swap ?

Hi folks I'm new to this forum and joined coz I desperately need to know if I'm making the right choice.

Here goes:

I currently have an ideal ergomax hybrid:

It was worth £500 a few years ago, it's a 26" frame which is a bit big for me but has all shimano gear and is pretty high spec.

Problem is: as I go riding with my mate who has a Raleigh mountain bike we tend to do a lot of off-road so I'm thinkin a proper mountain bike would suit me better.

So I posted my hybrid on gumtree and think 250 is probably a sensible asking price.

Setting my mind on 250 being my budget I've came across this:

Genesis Altitude 00.

I'm no expert but it seems a pretty decent bike.

The question is am I downgrading here ? Is this a good bike? And also would it be 7stanes worthy ?

Do you mean Genesis latitude 00 ? If so, this would be an upgrade in price on your bike.
It would be an ideal entry level off road bike assuming its in good order, you have all the pitfalls of buying 2nd hand to consider.
Brakes work ok ? pads ok? Wear and tear on the chain, cassette etc? Although it looks ok, if you had to have it serviced and a few worn parts changed to make it work safely and properly it could easily add £200.
Can you access the bike to work scheme? if so get a £600 atb for about £330 , plenty of good bike for that price.
