Is this fixable?

Silly me, I dropped my bike today and the shifter took the full force of the impact against concrete. It shattered. Is it fixable or will I need a new shifter? I won't bother taking it back to Decathlon as it was my fault, I can't fork out any money for a new shifter so I'm in a pickle.

It's hard to see exactly what has shattered from those photos, maybe some from a side angle would help along with a description?

It looks to me like just the indicator which tells you the selected gear has broken off, but I could be wrong. Will the shifter not shift gears at all?

Some better pictures for you. I can't tell you what's broken because I don't know what it should normally look like but it's jammed completely and it looks really messed up. I'm really hoping that someone on this site has a 8 speed shifter that they don't use 'cause otherwise I'm bikeless.

I don't know too much about the inner workings of these modern STI levers, but it looks like it's taken quite a hit. Seems like something inside was bent or snapped causing the levers to jam up?

If you can't get it working, you don't necessarily have to be bikeless. You could adjust your low-stop on the rear derailleur to make the rear gears automatically default to a more bearable gear, and you should still have use of your front derailleur. Not ideal, but it'd perhaps get you out on some flatter rides until you can get it fixed/replaced.

No chance of finding anywhere flat here, hills in every direction. I'll call up Decathlon, explain the situation and I won't get my hopes up. Best case scenario, new shifter. Worst case, they can't do anything.

If you can't afford a proper STI shifter and the brake bit is still working have a scout around for a cheap thumb shifter or downtube shifter - you should be able to bodge something for well under a tenner. It won't be as convenient, but it will work.

2300 shifters go pretty cheap on ebay.

If its jammed and nothing is wedging it and stopping the movement then its probably not any use.

Not what you want and bad luck but at least its not a silly expensive set like 105 etc.

Single shifters do tend to go for about £30 on eBay or £50 for a used pair. The problem you will find is that not too many Shimano 2300's come up for sale so you could be waiting a long time.

If a Shimano replacement is too expense then aside from the other suggestions above then maybe consider a Microshift shifter, should be compatible but would not match the other shifter unless you swapped them both.

That shifter in the picture looks to have taken a huge impact, I would have guessed the bike fell from some height looking at the pictures. It must be quite smashed up inside as the force and deflection was enough to rip the rubber hood which are pretty stretchy usually. Good luck with getting it sorted.
