My commute from Barnet to West Brompton takes me 55 mins by bike, but if I take the tube it takes 1.20 mins. This includes walking to the station and travelling on the train, assuming that all goes well with the Northern, Piccadilly and District Lines.

definately faster - from leaving home to arriving at work takes almost an hour by bus including a 10 min walk at each end to and from the bus stop - bike takes less than 30 mins - wish i'd done it sooner

My commute 9 miles into Manchester is slower by public transport than by bike, mainly because of the walks at either end of the tram ride. Buses take ages. The fastest commute I can do is by car, even in the rush hour, which makes a mockery of the plan to introduce a congestion charge for Manchester, on my route at least.

Based on my shortest route, bike is fastest if you include walking to and from the Metro stations. However the Metro is very good indeed and has not problems caused by congestion to deal. I think for the average speed cycle commuter it would be faster to take it. But that's not the reason I cycle anyway. I often do double that distance and take longer because I enjoy it!

I have 3 (4?) choices for my 16 miles:

Bus all the way (2 buses) - anything from 1 - 2 hours depending on traffic.
Train + bus - same
Train + bike - this is what I do, just over 1 hour door to door
Or, I can bike all the way, on a good day I can beat the bus option but not the trains.

So I voted 'the same' but actually....involving the bike is faster.
Ridiculous!

15mins walk to Central Line, 30mins on the train, 15mins walk the other end... Cycle 30mins-45mins with 20mins for a shower at the other end

12 minutes walk to town to get a bus, possible 5 minutes wait, then five minutes to the place i would get off and a five minute walk to work, thats if the bus is on time.Iv got to work in twelve minutes on my bike if i want to push.Strangely when iv gone in my car it still takes longer than the bike, once iv found somewhere to park.

This bit doesn't count as part of your commute time - you'll be showering anyway, be it at home or at the office, right?

Walk to Bus Stop - approx 3 mins
Wait for Bus - max 15 mins
Bus journey to work - approx 45 mins
Walk from Bus Stop at work to office - approx 5 mins
TOTAL = 1hr 8 mins (minimum of 53 mins if the Bus arrives at the stop as I do)

Bike journey about 20 - 25 mins including getting it out of the garage and putting it in the office at at the other end. Approx 25 mins for walk to and from shower and getting showered and changed so a total of about 50 mins maximum.

But what about the enjoyment of the exercise, the sailing past all the cagers, the joy of beating your PB... much more worth it on the bike!!!:biggrin:

I have no direct public transport so it's bike or motorbike for me. I'm happy with both but the motorbike doesn't put miles (kilometers) onto Cyclogs so really there is not a choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cycling takes half the time of public transport for me, on the rare occasions I have driven in it has been far faster than cycling due to the fact that I have only ever done it early on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
