I would quite like to come along for this if I can. However I have never been on a group ride before - anything I need to know? (I already have liability insurance).

Also, will this go ahead regardless of the weather or, like me are you all fair weather cyclists?

Thanks.

Dave, you won't need to book a return for the train- SWT do not do advance fares anyway. Wightlink's returns are flexible as well, you don't need to pick a specific return time, though they do get you to pick the outward time.

23mms will be fine, even on the Freshwater bike path if going that way.

I might not be up for this now, possibly doing something else......

not really. just bring a smile and a willingness to talk to people and you'll be fine.

Have a great ride, the route round is lovely.

I will be sailing round on the 25th as it's the Round the Island Race. Watch out for a couple of Thousand boats when your on the coast bits, it's a great sight.

Ta. As you're local..... if we are starting in Ryde and going clockwise where do you reckon are decent places to stop for a late lunch and an afternoon tea?

Hmmh, I guess it depends on what time your starting and your pace. However a couple of places spring to mind for lunch.

1) The White Horse, Whitwell. Just after the church the Route is signposted left, go straight on rather than left and the pub is about 150meters down the high street.

2) The Wight Mouse, Chale - Bit further along the route, the route goes straight past the car park. (Is a bit of a Family pub though and could be busy as it has a view of the sea so people may be watching the RTI course.)

Food is pretty good at both on the times I have been, they both also have big gardens so you can sit with your bikes.

I'll have a think about some others.

Afternoon tea, Yarmouth might be a bit early if your starting from Ryde but there is a nice cafe by the pier. Not sure of anywhere further round towards Ryde, will ask around.

JJust out of interest , how hilly is the route? Is it mainly flat with a few bumps or are there some tough climbs ?

I am new to this forum, but could be interested in this ride around the IOW this weekend.
I have not done any group rides, so not sure if I would be holding the pace up.
I did complete the London to Brighton on Sunday, and enjoyed that, and completed it under 5hrs, so maybe not the quickest but it was blockade after blockade.

Thank you for any advice or feedback
