my straw poll of my commute from SW18 to EC2 (so battersea,Victoria/Belgravia,The Mall,Strand etc) says about 80% of London cyclists jump red lights.

It's not that high. When TFL did ASL trials (in 2004, I think) using cameras at various London junctions the average number of RLJers was 36%. I would not be surprised if non-compliance has increased, but I very much doubt it is anywhere near 80%.

(touches imaginary forelock) that would be down to your extreme speediness, Mr. User482, sir..

Modesty prevents...but given a) I'm not Mark Cavendish and b)I don't have to try too hard to catch them, it's reasonable to assume that they ain't too quick.

What I would like to see is traffic lights phased to suit cyclists rather than motorists - I can think of a few junctions in Bristol where travelling at say 15mph will result in a red

Still, as I keep pointing out to friends who tackle me about RLJing, illegal behaviour by cyclists is several orders of magnitude less serious than illegal behaviour by motorists.

Lots of brand new neon "fixies" (but flopped to be free wheel) generaly being fair weather cyclists (or as I'm sure they imagine urban explorers / new York couriors)

Then it will be back to the norm.

well, Olly, thankyou for sticking your head over the parapet!

I think the wierd thing about Islington is that all manner of cyclists have absolutely no respect for lights. Including roadies in club kit. But, yes, fixies (rolls eyes) with four of five plastic spoked wheels are abundant. And the worst.

client came into work the other week (on a nice sunny day)
never seen him on a bike before by the way.
but this time he had with him one of those new no-name fixies lots of LBS's are doing at the mo.
from a distance it look pretty cool...
...but close up!!!!

all fittings no name and REALLY badly cast!!
FAKE!!! areo wheels (the areo bit was a plastic fitting around the spokes!!!
and it weighed A TON!!!!

and without saying it was flopped to the free wheel side.

these are the "urban explorers" that tend to tracks stumble at lights in islington.
funny really!:evil::laugh::biggrin:

and dellzeqq, how does one stick their head out of a parakeet:laugh::ohmy::sad:
