In the latest Cycling Plus they were going back over their first few issues 20 years ago and one of the things they were tipping and reviewing back then was suspension for road bikes but rather in the forks rather then the seatstay/post.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Weren't you an hour and 21 minutes early with the OP?

I wonder how much it effects the stiff of the frame. I wonder if it feels rigid
If you look at the material on Trek's website, and elsewhere, the Domane is actually stiffer than the Madone 6 series. The idea is that the seat tube is able to flex fore & aft, and to some extent vertically, thanks to the IsoSpeed pivot, without affecting the other frame tubes or compromising lateral stiffness. Early reports from the press day suggest it works, and Spartacus has certainly liked riding it...

If memory serves me right the madone is not reknown for being particulary stiff, so the fact is better is good, but the question is how much better in the real world.
Velo news has ridden one at flanders and said that because the back end absorbed so much shock on the cobbles it made the front feel harsh which I thought was interesting.
They also said it was better on normal roads and felt a little unbalanced on the fladers cobbles.
They seemed to like the bike though. You can read the review at the following URL

Fair play to trek for thinking out of the box, very interesting bike.

Bianchi actually created a prototype full-suss road bike for Paris-Roubaix back in 1994:

As much as I like Bianchi's, that is one ugly Frakenstein ;)

Point of order, (Victor) Frankenstein was the creator, not the monster. It was referred to in the story as "the creature", amongst other terms, but never named.
