A 16-year-old boy was assaulted and had his bike stolen in Ashtead on Saturday.
Police are appealing for information after the incident occurred at 3.40pm when the boy was out cycling alone on the footpath leading to the tennis courts from Woodfield Lane.
He suffered swelling and bruising to the face as a result of the assault.
The boy had stopped to pick up his mobile phone which had fallen out of his pocket when the offender confronted him.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Andy Cooper said: "This was an appalling incident which left the young boy shaken by the ordeal and I would appeal to anyone who has any information on this offence to contact officers with information as we need to catch the person responsible.
"If you witnessed the incident or know the whereabouts of the stolen bike please share this information with us.”
The stolen bike is described as black and white in colour with the word ‘Specialized’ written in green on the cross bar. It has black and white handle grips, a grey pump attached to the cross bar and blue suspension springs.

Anyone who has any information which may assist detectives with their investigation is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference MV/13/2757 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
