Auch, that was a sore one for sure!
Poor rider with the broken femur, my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Cycle buddy slipped on ice just walking outside his flat and cracked his hip joint

And it's often a total hip replacement if you do it. I only 'got away' without a new hip because the NHS missed my break twice. It was only when I showed them my physio's report suspecting a hip fracture did they then do a CT scan. The 3D image is frightening. At least five cracks, three in my hip socket.

Be careful with ice as even ice tyres aren't fail proof. I did notice that the road was looking 'slushy' near home around lunch yesterday, my wife had been out at 7am and the car said 3c, but later on, the road looked dodgy.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
A few years ago I was riding along a road that went under the M25. Chilly but not freezing. As I approached a cyclist coming the other way shouted a warning to me of ice under the bridge. I'm very grateful to him. I got off and walked my bike under the bridge and sure enough there were patches of skating rink visible if you looked hard.

Cancelled our group ride yesterday as my back was playing up, (similar weather forecast and conditions) mid morning noticed there was ice on my car windscreen and roof...

2 weeks ago happened to another group of riders I used to ride with and I've see the 'ouch' video of that incident 😱

Get well and heal well soon
