Today was my lad's first road ride (he's just turned 7). We went to the swimming pool and back - just under 3 miles each way. It was mainly back roads, with a cut across a golf course, but also involved crossing 2 main roads. He did really well and even pretended to be impressed when I did a jump over a speed cushion.

His mum had offered to come and pick him up cos of the weather, but he laughed at the idea, insisting he wanted to ride.

Well chuffed!

Excellent - well done to young master OT-Dump!

+1 My eldest is 8, he has a BMX, a front suss MTB and is already scheming for me to get him a road bike!

I took him for a 8 miler the other day, thought he would be shattered but he still sulked when he started recognising roads again and he realised we were close to home.

Well done Stig Jnr.

I can't wait to be able to go out with my nephew. He's only two!

Get him in a trailer Arch. My youngest used to look like butter wouldn't melt whilst she glided around. (Meanwhile i was sweating like a pig). Much more fun than being jiggled around on the kiddie seat. Dolls, teds and anything esle she fancied were buckled up for a ride.

UPDATE - this week he did his first school commute by bike (at his own insistence). Pleased as punch, me.
