Three years ago I was riding 3,000 miles a year, doing time trials, 220km audaxes..........and yacking away on here far too much. Then we moved to a wreck of an old cottage and started a huge renovation and extension project, which I am doing virtually single handed. The bikes went into storage, and with working 7 days a week on the house for over two years, I rode a grand total of 18 miles in two and a half years!! It was killing me.

Well, the house is far from complete, but the new half is all but finished inside, and the shell is watertight and warm. The old part is coming along nicely, and I'll be "finished" in 4 or 5 months time. The big news, though, is that in a big step forward I have just built a shed in the garden and finally recovered the bikes from storage! They're in use!!!

To give a taste of what I've been up to, here is the old part of the house in October/ November last year:

And here is why I have such a sore backside now:

That silly little shed has transformed life! I've been riding for a fortnight. The legs are coming back slowly. Heart and lungs are in good nick considering. Backside is hardening up. Twenty miles the first week, fifty so far this week. It's a joke, I know, but from zero...........well, I'm just grateful to be back on a bike.

Hi to all the Tea people.........and everyone who remembers me. It's great to be back, but it's weird feeling a bit like a beginner, and a newbie .

No wonder you've got a sore bum if you've been riding 20 miles on a shed.

:welcome: back the house looks like its coming along great, I bet you are glad the hard work is paying off.

I'm sure you will be back up to your previous level in no time at all once you get back in the saddle

She's been brilliant. First winter we had no heating, no fire, and no insulation. Condensation ran down the walls, mould grew everywhere. Not a single complaint.
