Interesting discussion! Had a similar personal decision a few years ago now - spent a long time mulling over every aspect of the accident, recovery, and ‘where to go from here’?
it wasn’t cycling, but paragliding, which I had been doing for many years - I had a catastrophic accident where the prognosis on hospital admission was given, of no chance of survival!
Did survive, and pretty much recover, and five years later started flying again with all new kit and my head ‘sorted out’.
In this sort of situation it really is down to the individual to work their way through it in their own mind whatever, or despite what anyone else says.
Glad you recovered and made the decision to resume, I had a mate who was into hang gliding, he was the sort of lad who never had much cash but was very practical at utilising old gear etc, he went to live in South Africa and due to earning more money bought himself a brand new hang glider, the first time he used it, it collapsed and he didn't survive.

Paragliding - I get wobbly on a 3 step, step ladder me...

TBH, its far safer than road cycling or MTB. Those all pale into insignificance if you are a commuter cyclist. I commute to stay fit, it's very risky..... all my big injuries have come from it.

Just an update, I started the claim via cycling UK, but the driver does not acknowledge he was in the wrong
I've sucdesdfully put motorists in prison for not dissimilar incidents with that type of outcome, so id be disappointed if they let him get away with a driver awareness course
I got an email from the PC involved, he informed me the case has been sent to the prosecution team for a driver improvement course as a recommendation ( for the car driver ). he interviewed him at his home address and submitted that on the RTC booklet.
This must have proved it was the drivers fault.
This morning I received full settlement into my bank account.
I am astounded at the speed and amount of the compensation.
The accident was on 20th August, less than two months ago.

Yep. That'll do it.

That's incredible. I haven't worked in Personal Injury for about 30 years, but when I was I think the fastest claims were around 18 months.
