I've started getting out of the saddle when leg breaking and it really helps.

I went out on the carbon roadie again last Sunday and I realised what feels so strange about freewheeling. It's a feeling that the crank is stuck when I stop pedalling. I am unconsciously expecting the pedals to keep turning but they don't and it feels that they are jammed stuck even though it is the exact opposite.

Believe me, when the circumstances arise, you will find yourself learning how to do it very quickly indeed. BTDTGTTS.

This is true. I tried lots of times to lock the rear with leg braking and just could not do it but managed it twice by accident when I needed to stop in a hurry due to being cut up. It was just a reaction and I didn't twig what I had done until after.

It would be fantastic if my new fixie were belt drive. Event less maintenance, maybe lighter, no greasy inside leg. But a belt cannot be opened like a chain can so installation involves opening the rear triangle. I have not seen any frames capable of this.
