As long as I breathe, I attack.
At 24 miles, mine is not the longest daily commute (by far) but I do ride to work almost all the time. Just coming up to the end of my 4th year commuting and I've beaten my 5k 'target' every year since I started, and mid September saw me hit the 20,000 mile mark.

Rather than try and hit mileage marks though, I go for the longest continuous run without resorting to the motorbike. Did 4 months straight this year, so I was well chuffed with that.
How did you manage to cycle for 4 months? did your family set up feed stations and let you sleep in the garage? its the toilet stops that were tricky i bet

I had no real mileage target for the year when I started out (as it was my first year commuting), it was just see what I could do.
Strava tells me I have done 7658.7 miles (not counting this morning).

So another 342 miles to reach a nice round figure of 8000 miles, if I don't reach it, can't complain at what I have done (I have till the 19th December to get there).

Very happy person here either way!

Got a bit of work to do to catch @Supersuperleeds though. :giggle:
.

My initial target was the national average 47.6miles; IIRC that was the Tuesday. My next target was 10,000miles reached that by the end of August. I passed the revised target 12,000miles a while back too and 14,000miles. But my final target of 1k miles a month is looking a bit shakey at the moment unless I get back on the bike soon.

I don't bother with targets really, I've ridden when I can and not when I can't. I've not skived or slacked off when my knee has been servicable, so that'll do for me.

Cheers, 8,000 miles in your first year is a bloody good effort

That's my target next year. This year I hopefully will finish on 10 months hitting it.

I'm glad to beat mine and hopefully do even more next year, i've went from 900 miles in 2011, 2,100 in 2012 to over 3,000 this year ^_^

Actually, on a recumbent you're already in the 'toilet position'. Just cut a small hole in the seat, and 'Hey Presto' no need to stop! Not ideal for any cyclists behind though.

I hit it with a few weeks to spare, so I'm happy. Means I can take the train guilt-free if it snows. Going to ramp it up to 5000 next year, god help me.
