Right outside Richmond station it happened AGAIN!

Muppet wanders out into the road without looking and I ride into her. Somehow she managed not to see lights and hi viz

Both of us end up in a heap, but of course all the people on the pavement are looking at me as if i'm some sort of cycle-terrorist who has just attacked a middle-aged fatty.

I've had plenty of offs in my time, including a couple of serious ones. But thinking about it, I can only recall two that have been with motor vehicles. One was a deliberate attack where I got knocked off on purpose (police did nothing despite 30 witnesses from the cycle club, number plate, description of driver) and the other was a cabby cutting in front of me and then driving off.

A few have been my own fault, too fast into a corner etc

But the majority have been stupid pedestrians. Methinks I should start calling the cops rather than just letting them walk or hobble off or whatever....

If you rode a Proper Bike (tm), you'd have punted her up in the air from knee height. Ask Betty Swollocks, remember his tale of taking out a jogger at 30mph?

Shame he didn't take out The Jogger from P+L, that would do us all a favour...

No damage to the best proper bike in London, but a sore arse and shoulder for me....

I meant to add, pedestrians are closeley followed by cyclists as the biggest danger I see on the roads

True, if a car hits you oyu're likely to suffer more, but I've had far more actual incidents as well as close misses with peds and bikes, much more than with cars...

My tip there would be to slow down in pedestrian-heavy areas.

Humm I wonder why London cyclist get such a bad reputation? Has it ever occurred to you that you have a responsibility to more vulnerable road users? Your SMIDSY attitude suggest not, maybe it is time to re-think you riding style, or just take an eye test...

Fenchurch Street is like lemmings trying to die, every single day

and lately the slow traffic on the Mile End Road has ped skipping through four lanes of traffic in the dark

yes, I worry most about peds becasue too many of them are utterly oblivious to bikes

HJ, if you haven't ridden through rush hour London, I respectfully suggest you have no idea

I bloody well saw her, and did my damn best to avoid her. I'd just slowed up a few seconds before for a zebra and was getting going again when she appeared in the middle of the road. This is a 4 lane main road by the way, it's best to cross at the zebra, the lights, or to check for bikes (and motorbikes) if you're going to cross the way she was, and where she was

and yes, I should have pointed out this was in London, if I slowed up in places with pedestrians I'd never go above a pootle...
