Yes, I am aware of that but when the presenter says things like ; " see you in a couple of minutes" do they just say: "Welcome back" right away and carry on with the show? I am just curious to know.

They usually film all the ad break comments as a set and not during the show, so the presenter will be asked to say "see you after the break" etc in several different ways and these are cut into the final edit.
We've seen the filming of the Antiques Roadshow and they film a set of "noddies" where the presenter and member of public look at each other and just nod. These are filmed and edited in.

I've got a friend who has been in the audience at a few game shows when they're being filmed and he reckons that they can take an hour or more to shoot a half hour show (effectively 23 mins or so of footage once adverts and titles are covered). Not just the ad breaks, but constant pauses to ruffle Ben Sheppards hair or tweak Stephen Mulherns make up, or adjust the lighting.
The longest shoot he's been to was an episode of 8 out of 10 Cats do Countdown, which took over 3 hours to film, primarily due to stuff going on that could never be shown on the telly.

In a previous life I was on the weakest link.
Fanny Annie had a stinker of a cold. Midway through a question she started to cough like crazy. She was taken off set. We were left there for 20-30 minutes. They brought us a jug of water after a while.
She was eventually wheeled out and the question was started again.
