I've gone and spent more money.....However, this time it isn't on a camera.

Ok it isn't on a bike either.

I've bought myself a workstand and some tools in the Ribble (15% off) sale thingy.

I have to say, having only used the bike stand for 20 mins, to adjust the brakes and to give the chain a quick clean, it really does make servicing the bike a lot easier. Wish I'd bought one sooner.

I tried to convince my wife that these purchases will save us money in the long run. I'm not sure she is buying it though......

I agree, a workstand makes life a lot easier.

Every cyclists house should have a workstand, I know that's not possible for everyone but do agree it is a great 'tool' to own and use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Much like a track pump. You don't appreciate how good they are until you purchase a decent one.

+1 for workstands, they're a revelation after you've spent years leaning your bike against the shed wall for maintenance tasks.

Of course not, duh! You need to employ a bartering system of offsets and comparisons and failing that down on your knees 'but this will make me happy' pleading. ........ honestly, appealing to logic ..........

I think I need to buy another workstand. I've got one I leave at the folks, more room for maintenance there and its great/ makes life a lot easier, I need another for the flat though

Failing that, knock up a "wife receipt". There was a windsurf shop round Gosport way that seriously offered this service to the put-upon husband/windsurfer.

I think Mags' workstand is actually for his AV setup.. nothing to do with the bike at all!

Actually the bike, when I first bought it was only £275, so it isn't difficult to spend more on the AV kit than on the bike.

OK, I suppose I might have upgraded/replaced the rear derailleurs, wheels, cassette, bottom bracket, chain, tyres, headset, the front hub, the rear hub..... I think the frame is the same

When you posted the link originally I visited the site and ended up spending nearly 70 quid - so thanks for that, Mags!!

I got a workstand, a chain cleaner thingy and some wet lube too. Now just need to fins the time to actually get to use the stand a bit!

Just as an aside - is it recommended to clamp by the seatpost? It looks to put undue lateral stress on it...

I went for the Bike tool Aluminium Workstand. I'm quite pleased with it and I think it is good value for £53.

I also got the Pro Professional Tool Box (18 piece), which on inspection seem pretty good quality. I had originally thought about getting individual tools when I needed them, but it just seemed too much of a faff.

Now to save up for a new bike....
