I've just spent a few days in a place where:

There is no litter, no graffiti, and no boarded up shops.
On the street people make eye contact and exchange greetings
Parking is free, cars drive slowly and drivers are polite.
The pubs serve a wide range of proper beers and don't do shots.
In those pubs there is no loud music playing, and people from 18 to 80 sit around talking to each other.
In the shops, the staff smile and chat to customers
There is no Tesco, no McDonalds and no kebab shop.

I think I might go back soon.

Was it 1950?

It had the feel of a place that had avoided everything that makes city life in 2012 a little bit crap.

Visited the chip shop then sat on the beach eating a fish supper, it was particularly good.
Again, the chip shop closes at 8.30pm and all the pubs at 11.00pm, it is like stepping back to a better time.

Regarding the diving, I think it's better than the Barrier Reef

Aldeburgh

It's sort of my home town, I grew up in Wickham Market which is just down the road. I took my wife to Sizewell beach the first day we were man and wife. I thought all seaside towns were like Aldeburgh, a myth trashed by nearby Felixstowe. According to my dad the best thing about Felixstowe is that it is where the A14 starts, so you can get a good speed up on your way out.

Last autumn had a lovely day along the suffolk coast, fish and chips along the seafront in aldeburgh(mind those pesky seagulls).

Then on to walberswick and southwold, finishing with afternoon tea at the swan in lavernham. :cuppa:

The queue's building up for the upstairs restaurant at the chippy.
For the record, the batter on the cod was about the thickest and crispiest I've ever had.

You might not want to go back there next year then - Tesco's

There is a strong campaign going to prevent it. The site they are looking at is right next door to the Co-op, the only supermarket in the town, so clearly it is an attempt to drive them out.
