There is a strong campaign going to prevent it. The site they are looking at is right next door to the Co-op, the only supermarket in the town, so clearly it is an attempt to drive them out.

Shame- it is a really fine place (Aldeburgh not Tesco!). I do have some sympathy though with the locals who often can't afford all the poncy shops that spring up in places like that, but if there's a co-op there already then it does seem like another Tescos invasion.

I've just spent a few days in a place where:

There is no litter, no graffiti, and no boarded up shops.
On the street people make eye contact and exchange greetings
Parking is free, cars drive slowly and drivers are polite.
The pubs serve a wide range of proper beers and don't do shots.
In those pubs there is no loud music playing, and people from 18 to 80 sit around talking to each other.
In the shops, the staff smile and chat to customers
There is no Tesco, no McDonalds and no kebab shop.

I think I might go back soon.

I am surprised it has no MacDonalds. John Gummer was the MP til recently. He likes his beefburgers.

It's sort of my home town, I grew up in Wickham Market which is just down the road. I took my wife to Sizewell beach the first day we were man and wife..

a myth trashed by nearby Felixstowe. According to my dad the best thing about Felixstowe is that it is where the A14 starts, so you can get a good speed up on your way out.
hey - there are parts of Felixstowe that are positively bijou!

I took a picture of Mrs VC standing just there on Friday, and she posted it on Facebook saying that I really spoiled her and showed her all the sights.

Although I wouldn't choose it as a honeymoon location - but each to his own.

There is one brilliant shop in Aldeburgh, where Mrs VC bought me this:

Was it Accrington Stanley?

I like that! It's nice to know that folk still associate our name with pleasanter times gone by. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=im...&s&biw=800&bih=485&sei=uHVFUMiOGq6T0QWAzoHICg I don't just watch my local team for the win at all costs that football is these days, but for the sense of history and the sights and smells(pie and peas, bovril) that you just don't get at "modern"football grounds these days.
If someone said that you can go back 50/60 years for a day then i'd choose a Stanley match at our old Peel Park ground, as part of that day!
