I've been told that I should not be on the road on something with pedals. Laughed my ass off when a guy at roundabout shouted this to me and I pointed out that as his car was a manual he actually had more pedals than me

It also depends on where you cycle and a what times. Funnily enough I got told yesterday evening by a bus driver on the A8. I decided to take it as concern for my safety rather than get out of my way.

I had a huge argument with an ill-informed pig-headed member of my family last weekend about it. His solution to the dangers cyclists face on the roads is simply to remove cyclists from the roads. My hackles were still raised days later.

Just remind your family member, that it is thanks to cyclists and specifically the CTC that we have decent roads at all....B)

Only once for me, but fair enough, I was cycling in the fast lane of the southbound M3 at the time.

It actually happened at last yesterday, going down a slight hill into the town centre, it is a 40 limit, and I was doing 40, in primary with the flow of traffic, holding no one up, at the bottom is a set of lights as it goes onto the ring road around the town centre, the road splits into two lanes, I take the right lane to turn right, the car behind takes the left to go straight on. While we wait at the lights the driver winds his window down and says I should have been on the shared path, I ask if he means the one with all the school kids on, he says yes, I then ask him how fast I was going, he says 40 and then the look of realisation washes over his face, "my bad" he says, gives me the thumbs up and puts his window up and looks ahead with a kind of grimace on his face. I am pretty sure I saw him later when I was crawling up a big hill at 5mph in the bus lane, still passing the line of traffic however.

It happened to the Mrs once when she was filtering up the inside of a line of stationary traffic. Given that there was no cyclepath (only a pavement) she asked the driver if he really did want her to cycle illegally down the pavement, sending prams & old dears flying. Traffic jams really do bring out the worst in people...
