Ok, when approaching from the direction the photo has been taken in its not too bad. Worse in the opposite direction. The distance between the two rows of posts isn't even a bike length.

I can't get the bike straightened up in time so hit the cattle grid at an angle.

Then at the point where I took the photo from is a minor road.....so you need to turn at a ninety degree angle to either go left or right.

This is the reply I've had. From a company called a1 plus who the council forwarded my complaint onto saying its their responsibility. Never heard of the company before.

Your query regarding the cycletrack next to the A46 has been forwarded to us by Lincolnshire County Council. We manage and maintain the motorways and trunk roads in the East Midlands on behalf of the Highways Agency.

Our Inspector has been out on site to see for himself that issues that you raise. Indeed the cattle grid is there to deter cattle from crossing , the bollards to prevent motorcycles from using the path they are staggered to stop this usage .

Ultimately the safest way to cross and navigate them would be to dismount the bike and push across the cattle grid in wet conditions, also possibly the safest way to navigate through the bollards as a safety first approach.

As there have been no reported incidents here there would be no justification for carrying out any alterations. Every spend of public money needs to be identifiable and justified to make sure there is quantifiable value for money.

I appreciate that this isn’t what you would wish to here but we continue to monitor all parts of the network and will make scheme proposals where they are appropriate.

Just round the bend/top of slope is another barrier....one of the usual n shaped barriers where there's two staggered. Which would also stop motorbikes.

At the the other end of the path that's all that's present so not sure why there's overkill on one end and not the other.

It is a shared use path, not sure if a mobility scooter could access it.

I would keep up the pressure to be honest. That can not be legal. If they were spread out over 20 meters or something that would make a little more sense, but as to the reason why anyone would endanger a cyclist like that, I have no idea.

I've seen a few cattle grids in my time, but never one with a cattle bypass which doubles as a wheelchair access..

I share the anger of the OP. And I raise it to outright fury.

I was cycling along our High Street and was forced to stop (at an empty junction) by large, vertical posts with coloured signal lamps mounted at their head.

I had to wait until a pre-set sequence of colour-coded messages had run through to "Proceed with caution", signified by a constant, green light.

I am equally outraged that the progress of the modern cyclist with many things to meet and people to do is being hindered by these so-called new-fangled traffic obstacles.

I intend to march on Parliament, but will have to allow more time for the traffic signals, one-way streets and Give Way signs.

Not sure if you got out of bed the wrong side this morning, but your rambling is totally irrelevant in this instance.

But back on topic, how can anyone is their right mind come up with, approve, sign-off & have built that monstrosity, how much did that cost, our councils clearly have no concept of how to spend OUR money.

Have motorcyclists ever tried to use this path?
Their letter is poor. Did the engineer try to cycle through there or just turn up in his van, have a look and go home? Having to get off and walk is admission that the facility is not fit-for-purpose.
Is this a relatively new facility due to the recent widening of the A46?

It's not new due the widening of the a46. The cycle path goes under the a46 but actually runs along the a57. Cycle path was built maybe three years ago to link where I live to the city. Promoted as a leisure and commuting path. Google suggests it was funded partly by the council but they passed my email to this aplus group.

I will email them again and also contact someone from the ctc local group. Thanks.
