I was converted to the idea of kilt wearing after attending the Knockengorroch world ceilidh.

I've bought myself a cheap open tartan (Black Watch) kilt until I shed sufficient lard and maintain a steady weight before I commit to a McFarlane tartan.

I collected the gear from City Link this evening. My kids think I'm mad, my wife has resigned herself to my indulgences.

i've managed to persuade a couple of colleagues to join me in kilt wearing. Their wifes are totally in the dark at the moment as the gear is being delivered to my house.

All being well the first public airing will be Thursday when Headingley might just receive a visit for a beer and a curry.....

Then there's this weekend's Big Session festival...

Get in Vern!

This thread is useless without pictures by the way.

Good stuff Vernon!

I have been dabbling with the idea for a while and wanted to get one when I was married. I was after getting on in the wife's tartan, Stirling.

I am still thinking about it and now I have a girlfriend who is a full Scot and not a half Scot I am thinking harder. She is quite keen on the idea too. I am thinking of going for a Great Kilt in one of the Tartans from her family clans though I am also thinking of designing my own so that it is really mine.

I have one. I fear to announce that it is tiresome to cycle in, and can give rise to bell-end frost-nip in inclement weather.

Get yourself a Glengarry cap or a Braemar to go with it - very dashing!

Here for rides.
my Irish heritage only entitles me to wear plaids that look like they are leftovers from an IRA dirty protest.

Therefore I bought a utilikilt in black from here

Regretably I can no longer wear it as I've lost too many inches from my waistline.

Love the link, but the devil in me wants to highlight one paragraph:

"The Original’s 8.5 oz. cotton-poly twill fabric contributes to and exposes wear, shrinkage and winkles, and breathes well. It’s perfect for summer. People will want to check out your Leather Perineum. If you’re man enough, that is."

There may be a market for Black Watch, but it ain't exactly hi-viz, unless you add a few Scotchlite strips.......
