My son (who did a spell at the till at Threshers, amongst other jobs) told us that scratchcards were the worst.

In comes the punter, buys a couple of scratchcards. Scratch scratch. "Aha I've won £5!" Money produced from till. "OK, let's have ... another couple of those scratchcards ... and one of those." Scratchcards duly produced. "Ah, now I've won £4. Let's make it, one of those and ...."

Of course you all know what the state of play is, at the point where the punter leaves the shop....
