Yesterday i went to test ride a Giant Defy 2 that i have had my eye on for a few weeks it would be my first serious bike since i was fourteen (im 31 now sshhh) after persuading the missus that getting it on a 0% finance was a good idea before setting off i went and did it i bought the shiney new Defy 1 in the rack next to it!!!! hahaha hope she cant tell the difference or im for it! hopefully it will be ready today and i will be flying around on it this afternoon it will be a far cry from the slow old mtb ive been using for the past few months since starting to ride again! Cheers

Keep the old bike, in the months to come you won't want to take your brand new shiney toy out in the horrible weather!!

Very nice bike, looks to be a very similar spec to my 2010 Defy 2 (but I prefer your black paintjob).

Change the pedals and enjoy it!

Pick some shoes you like (and fit) and then pick some pedals that use the same type of clip system.

I use cheapo Shimano M520 clipless pedals in bare metal (£20ish), they are nice and small and allow me to wear SPD type shoes that I can run in if I have to, certainly traipsing around the shops is not an issue.
The pedal thing is very much objective and there are plenty of threads on here regarding SPD or SPD-L and other types of clipless pedals and shoes.
