I've taken the freehub off...where do I put the WD40?

Hi The wheel is about 2 years old and looks fine. Why would that need changing?
How worn is the rim? How worn are the bearing races in the hub itself? Sometimes it's just not cost effective to chase after wearing parts when you can buy an entire wheel for £50 that'll do a commuter fine.

I ummed and erred about this.

The rim is not too bad - it looks like new compared to the last rear wheel I had (Mavic?) which had really deep grooves in the rim, that I didnt even contemplate replacing the freehub - on that occasion it was 'buy a new wheel' time.
When I replace the current hub, I might change the entire wheel when that freehub wears out.

Fitted the new freehub and replaced the bearings and cone, too.
The wheel is now spinning so smoothly, I didn't realise how rough the old bearings were! That gentle tick-tick-tick is bliss.
