Theres a local tale of his shock jock attitude very nearly ending him up with "egg on his face". When at Radio Aire/Yorkshire TV he owned a house midway between Harrogate and Ripon which had a garden backing onto the trackbed of the former railway between the two towns.
It came to the local councils attention that he had extended his garden and when challenged he wanted all the council bods their so he could make fools of them on TV completely overlooking that to either side of his enlarged garden was the trackbed. Eventually saw sense.

How about respecting all the people he humiliated and belittled and so not covering up that Whale was often rather toxic? It wasn't just a 'regrettable comment' but laughter and reactions unacceptable enough to get him suspended. Whale was also fired from several jobs for other transgressions, including turning one national radio show into a non-impartial Boris campaign vehicle, which arguably helped put the blond buffoon on the path that ultimately saw him in charge of the pandemic response... so, yes, Whale has a lot to answer for, if his spirit has gone to somewhere with entry gates. Even for a technically talented shock jock, he spent more time in the gutter than others.
I was among those disappointed that none of the early replies mentioned the shoot side of his shows, even if you liked some of his antics. Did you agree with all that dodgy stuff too?
Whale was a relic of the 70s who seemed unable to move forwards. It's a shame other relics kept hiring him, implying that such stuff is still OK. Sympathy to his friends for their loss, of course, but he shouldn't get whitewashed.
