At least penalties are interestingly tense as opposed to turgid. I have the feeling that the Japanese gave everything in getting out of their group and actually didn't have that 'extra gear' for the knock-outs - after all nothing was expected of them before this tournament. Paraguay are, well, pretty much how Paraguay always are, albeit a bit more disciplined than in the past.
But not today they didn't, unfortunately... except very occasionally. I think they played way above themselves in the group stage and had little left today. But Honda, Endo, Hasebe, Tanaka in particular did themselves no harm in terms of their global reputation. Keeper was good too.
Can't see Paraguay going any further unless Portugal won tonight which looks doubtful. Portugal v paraguay the sort of game I could see going to deadlock and penalties with how they've both been playing.
