Jeans for Commuting

Levis have launched jeans for cycling in.

I saw that the other day. No good for me, i got thighs the size of space shuttles.
Getting a pair of jeans that fits my waist but also fits my thighs is impossible!

I had to ditch 501's once I started cycling - couldn't get my thighs into them. Skinny jeans don't work on cyclists.

Jeans don't do it for me, my thighs are just too big and there is not enough fabric in the groin/waist area to accommodate them when cycling. Joggers, cargos or lycra work for me on my commute and any other time, jeans only for VERY relaxed short rides to town and back when I can't be bothered to get specially dressed.

I have found I have had to switch to boot cut and "generous fit" jeans. They are pretty much skin tight on me. Cycling any further than a mile would be a huge no no.

bit of rain and denim turns into a sponge. i'll stick to synthetics.
nice idea but unless the thighs are built mahoosive pretty pointless.

Alpkit already make stretchy water resistant jeans for outdoor stuff and bouldering, have done for a few years now.

That's where it gets interesting: the blurb says they'll have a ''higher back rise'' so that, plus the ''3M reflectivity,'' could right royally mess up the hipsteroid market. Not only will we be able to see them but we won't have to have today's choice of underkegs in our faces.

Fact is, they've screwed up the hipnotised market. I think I'll buy a pair.

You know what? These actually appeal to me massively!

I wouldn't say 511s are hipster skinny, more slim fit - I already own a couple of pairs and they are NOT cycling friendly as the backs are very low! I wouldn't wear them when commuting, but when popping into town to be able to wear comfortable, nice looking jeans in the confidence I won't be exposing my hairy arse crack to anyone behind me and potentially inviting dangerous overtakes as following motorists desperately try to get away from the view, then these will be perfect.

The reinforced crotch also sounds good as it always appears to be the seam between the legs that wears out first on any jeans I own, which is a massive annoyance.

The 511® Skinny retails for $78,

Hmm, considering 511's generally retail for around £80 over here (I usually wait for them to appear on sale) I expect these will be more like £100

Alpkit already make stretchy water resistant jeans for outdoor stuff and bouldering, have done for a few years now.

This, Alpkit are great. I use their bouldering mats and a Gourdon 30 as a cycle bag.
