Is that not going to happen anyway? Retirement would have been the only option and thesedays many F1 stars do not retire at the sort of age Button is. Button joins a long list of illustrious names that perhaps should have quit earlier Fittipaldi, Jones, Rosberg, Piquet, Hill, Villeneuve etc. Hard to say even at the time. And who knows, we could all be wrong and Button gets 2nd in the championship next year with 4 victories.

wilson, or emerson? keke or nico? nelson or, um nelson? graham or damon? gilles or jacques?

The only think that might come to Jenson's aid against Hamilton is that the refuelling ban will mean cars starting races with heavy fuel loads which will help Jenson as Lewis is traditionally hard on tyres and being a bit hot headed at times.

Stupid to have two recent world champions a year apart on the same team. It will end in tantrums and tears as only one of them can win it rather than either of them if they were on seperate teams. Button has hastily dropped any loyalty he had to Team Braun. Behind the scenes I should imagine Hamilton is not best pleased. It will only make his life harder although he is clearly the better driver. What if either of them is ordered by the team boss to let the other pass taking a race win or the title?

Well they were put in chronological order for a reason and that reason being pretty obvious. I'm also not in the business of dissing two people that were not on the list that you suggested I might have been referring to and are regarded as great drivers and had their careers (however they were doing at the time which varied) brought short by death. If I wanted to do that I could have constructed a much more gruesome list especially from the 70s. If people don't like my comparison that's fair enough. Not that I don't like Nico Rosberg, but the jury is still out on him, bit of a gamble imho by Brawn, which adds interest to F1.

Really? How about Michael Schumacher or Rubens Barrichello?

I think Jenson and Rubens have shown that generalisation isn't always true.

Although I think Hamilton is fantastic at marketing himself and the "sport", I don't think he's yet half the gentleman that Rubens is.

It's a sport for playboys and gentlemen then ?

Not at all.

Just that, having said your theory about having team mates fighting for the title was not necessarily true, I think that was because both Button and Barrichello both seem to enjoy the experience and have respect for other drivers.

IMO, Hamilton, like Schumacher, will do whatever it takes to win the championship.

I'm surprised at how quick some of you are to write Button off. He's just won the World Championship, and it dosen't matter how good your car is, you can't do that if you're a numpty. I think he might raise a few eyelids.

Feel sorry for Braun though, all that effort and no Number 1 on their car.

Crankarm, please actually read my posts and you'd actually see that I was agreeing in a certain way with your shorter version. I can of course write much longer posts but don't see why this shouldn't stay more light hearted, it is after all great news for Button as far as I'm concerned. Not so sure team wise or sanity of it in some ways but I'm just plain impressed Button managed to get the seat on so many levels.

+1 on both points. I do get annoyed with the Hamilton worshipping cult that seems to have developed in this country.

I think you missed my point, not that I didn't make it clearly.

Yes, Team Braun must indeed be a tad miffed. But I guess the offer of even more money elsewhere attracted Button.

Huh.......... you get annoyed with people who like Lewis Hamilton, his fans...... You should get out more. So you don't like Lewis Hamilton?

Which posts have clearly praised Hamilton to the extent of cult worship? I think we are discussing Button gaining a drive for McLaren and the dynamics of how this may affect the team of which Hamilton is the other existing driver. Simples.

Hamilton like Button is a World Champion. Hamilton did make achieve some stunning race wins in 2008 as did Button in 2009.
