I bought a £400 SciCon bike box before I flew with my bike again. The handlers managed to damage that too but at least it protected the bike.

Love the song lol.........laughing here

It was in a bike bag he used.

.Why should I have to claim from travel insurance when they broke it? All my camera stuff (£3k's worth) was stolen from my car in Spain 2 years ago........no one to claim from so claimed on travel insurance, no other choice, but this time......its their fault. They should pay.

Have you contacted the airport. I've a feeling it'll be where you'll be passed on to.

The theory is that seeing the bike makes a difference to the behaviour. All the signs in the world can be ignored, but they are less likely to crush it if they can see the damage.

I don't know if this is true or not.
It'll be seen as an item that's slowing things down, by some. They can't take it out on the owner directly, so...

I got the advice from Civil Aviation Authority website..

Don't worry about who should pay. It's not about getting justice, it's about getting the frame replaced with as little pain and out-of-pocket expenses as possible. No higher purpose is served if the airline pays for it instead of your insurer.

Any insurance bought/purchased with the ticket?

Company that owns the airport(Spanish Government) goes on the market Wednesday.

Not. Our bikes were in clear bags. They still threw them out of the hold and then threw heavy bags on top.
My bag was not clear but it was clear what was in it, and that it was expensive and delicate ...

They knew what they were doing; they just didn't care. In fact, it was possibly seen as a punishment for burdening them with bulky, heavy baggage.

The stupid thing is, baggage handlers ended up having to handle a large 33 kg box instead of a smaller 23 kg bag because they couldn't be trusted. They did their best to destroy the box, but it survived with only a broken wheel and corner which I repaired post-holiday with an aluminium corner plate bonded in with epoxy resin.

Jet2 is suggesting that because he initially bought it 19 years ago and as it has been 'repaired' 3 times, they suggest it has no value and probably broke because it was old.

But it wasn't repaired, it was replaced.

How long ago was the last frame replaced? Jet2 should return you to the position you were in prior to the damage occurring. Be firm and polite with them and don't let them deflect you towards anyone else like baggage handlers etc.

Best of luck.

It was a Cannondale frame and it came with a lifetime guarantee. He has had 3 replacement frames so far from Cannondale?
Slightly off-topic, but why has he needed 3 replacement frames? If he's on his 4th frame, it sounds like Cannondale frames only last around 6 years - not a good advert for Cannondale!!

I have been battering mine with up to 17 stone of me on board doing speeds up to 55 mph on rough Yorkshire, Lancashire and Spanish descents for 12 years and have had no problems! :okay:

Dream on ... My bike was in a bike bag clearly marked (something like) "FRAGILE, BICYCLE - HANDLE WITH CARE' but they threw it out of the plane anyway!
I never seem to be anything other than stunned at the audacity & sheer mindless actions of baggage handlers.

I am led to believe that they are on very good salaries & conditions, so why have they any excuse to treat the people who they serve in such an uncaring manner ?

If I were to conduct myself in a similar way at work it wouldn't take long for my P45 to be produced.

Rant over.
