Or over 64 if the Mail is to be believed
''In a 50mph speed limit zone, such as the ones Clarkson had been driving in, motorists can be caught driving at speeds of up to 64mph and be offered the course instead of taking points.''

If it was a 50 mph then from the above
52 mph - device error
57 mph - Fixed penalty if education inappropriate
57 - 64 mph Speed Awareness if appropriate
76 mph is where the summons is issued

Suggests that he was at or above the latter speed

That may vary between areas. In Leicestershire anything over 36 mph in a 30 limit means points, with no option of a speed awareness course.

(I know this because I sat in a room full of people who'd been caught doing exactly 36mph. Mea culpa).
Indeed it may. In Surrey it's anything over 42mph in a 30 limit. Below this and you may be offered the course. At least the course is very good.....

Have to be extra careful in your 30th year Drago...

What Mr Clarkson means is: he hasn't been caught speeding for 30 years, until now.

What Mr Clarkson means is: he hasn't been caught speeding for 30 years, until now.

And what Drago means is that he hasn't been caught in his twenty nine years on the road.

There are a number of people that I work with who openly brag about breaking speed limits [especially on the A1, A1[M], A69 and A19].

I've been driving 29 years, never had any points. I don't regard it as doing well, I regard it as normal guy who tries to be law abiding and careful, and who doesn't drive a 200 MPH Mercedes.
What exactly does the top speed of his wheels have to do with it? I drive a 1300cc Vauxhall Combo van "with a top speed of about 105 mph" (I would guess). Would you like me to report to a police station and fess up?
