Where are you and what can you do?

To be positive, I work in Engineering building transformers, and for the past 9 months the business has bearly been on tick over. However, in the past couple of weeks orders have started to return, particularly in the consumer OEM market for deliveries in the second half of the year. In fact right now I can have as much overtime as I want. As a business we appear to be turning the corner, particularly with some major activity happening in the Pacific rim markets. Also, some of our suppliers are saying that things seem to have stabilised and they're looking secure for the future.

One swallow... and all that, but keep plugging away Steve, things should become easier soon.

Would it surprise you if I suggested that this might not be the first time I've heard this particular line?:biggrin:

Sorry to hear about that Steve23 it can get really hard, have you thought about looking on Gumtree in your area, or even putting an add on there? There are a few jobs around but some pay really rubbish money.

I have been looking into apprenticeships, some colleges can help you find a job in something you want to retrain in. I find that I tend to get angry and lose hope, thankfully I have an understanding partner.

Just keep looking and leave no stone unturned.

I put my CV on gumtree over a year ago now with what I wanted - some sort of [preferably] web/ICT job for summer paying at least £6.50/hour (or something like that). Didn't expect anything to be honest - I just had 10 minutes to kill

I got a temp agency, a removals firm wanted someone to answer phones and the the job I do now (outside of term time).

For me I was lucky as I bagged quite a good job out of it. It pays well and it was what I was after.

Definitely recommend gumtree for a try. Other than that try looking on lots of different job websites...and have no standards. I've always been prepared to do pretty much anything.

Wish I could help the OP but I'm struggling to find a new contract at the moment.

See, always someone who's been living in a cave. ;0)

A friend of my wife's is just about to get paid off from Abby in Glasgow. She's been really nonshalaunt about it but I think it's starting to sink in. She's never been out of a job and just assumed she find another easily. I was trying to get through to her that there will be hundreds of people joining the job market at the same time, all with very similar skills to her! As more and more of her colleagues find new jobs she's starting to panic slightly.
