Jockey wheel question ?

I took apart my rear derraileur today to clean after weekend ride, I removed the jockey wheels from my shimano alivio mech and set them aside whilst I cleaned the mech inside and out, then I cleaned the jockey wheels the bolts and the small centre bearings and put to one side for reassembly.

I then went to re fit the jockey wheels which are both the same size but one has a metal insert with 4 grooves in and the bearing runs inside this metal insert but I never noticed when I removed where the one with the metal insert came from nearest the 8 speed cassette or the other one, furthest from the cassette ?

The other jockey wheel is just plastic without a grooved metal insert, I think the metal insert one should be near to the cassette but really not quite sure now...

Any help will be appreciated,

Cheers,

Deano

The one nearest the cassette should have a few mm of play from side to side .

The metal insert one is the top one (guide pulley) and the plain one goes at the bottom (tension pulley)
