John Radford - driver admits roadrage killing

Change the word 'ride' to 'drive' and you have just given a perfect excuse for every bull headed driver out there.
Wrong.

There is a difference. Me on 12kg of alloy being assertive to preserve my safe space is not the same as a 2x4 in a 2000kg 4x4 barging into MY safe space. The latter is aggressive.

I really can't understand the mentality of people putting themselves and others at risk for the sake of saving a few seconds.

RIP John Radford.

Terrible news, but I'm glad the cowardly scum at least admitted it. There's no justification for confrontation, as this death sadly demonstrates - you never gain by it and stand to lose a lot.
Considering he pleaded not guilty at the previous trial and put John's family through a full trial then I don't give the guilty plea now much credit.

As cyclists on a cycling forum and probably most are car drivers, let's hope this has some impact on others views. We all want to get where we are going. If it takes a few minutes more then so be it.

'causing death' is manslaughter in my world, I don't care how it's done, some vigour from CPS would be nice

Yeah, but it's not English, it's the law. In another jurisdiction it might be called vehicular manslaughter or vehicular homicide.

Of course, those jurisdictions won't have a crime of weaponed homicide or firearm manslaughter, so we still would have the problem that killing someone wielding a car aggressively is somehow different from choosing any other means.

Oh god, I just realised - if John had picked up his bike and raised it over his head and hit the driver and killed him, he would have been charged with murder.

The bloke who ran me over threatened to kill me twice before doing so.
The police initially said they would prosecute him for threats to kill and another offence that I can't remember something to do with attempt to wound, but settled for lesser charges of AOABH and dangerous driving. He was sentenced to two years in prison, serverd 7 months.

The Cycling Silk recorded a driver actually threatening to kill him and had to press the cops to do anything. Unless a driver says something like "I will kill you" the CPS will never go for anything serious. It is a strange manslaughter in that the driver went out of his way to accidentally kill.

I don't know any of the details about this sad case, but I'm broadly in agreement with the people who say that confrontation is best avoided. The problem is that we are human, and when some other road user does something that I regard as extremely stupid/arrogant and puts me in physical danger, I get a bit angry. I don't want to physically harm them, but I want to point out reasonably forcefully that they were stupid, and some angry and possibly rude words might come forth. It's not ideal but it might be a bit of aversion therapy for their benefit. Of course, it might make them even more determined nutters, but I find it hard to just bite my lip and take it after a horrendous rush of fear and adrenaline.
